The three panel lines people most often blame for stomach tightness after a vegan shake are a gum thickener like xanthan or guar, added for texture; a sugar alcohol like erythritol, added for sweetness; and a fast-fermenting fiber like inulin. NØRSE CØDE carries none of the three, and the fiber it does carry is acacia.
Most pages on this question stop at the list of what a powder leaves out. That list only tells you what is absent from the panel. Something is always doing the work in place of it, because a plant protein left alone drinks like powder suspended in water.
Try It Yourself
Nine powders, ours first, then the rest in order of how much is on the panel, shortest ingredient list to longest. Every panel read from the brand's own product page on 2026-08-23.
| Powder | Sweetener | Xanthan or guar gum | Fiber, enzymes or probiotics | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NØRSE CØDE | Allulose, monk fruit | None on the panel | Acacia | [1] |
| Complement Organic Plant Protein | Organic stevia (Reb A) | None on the panel | Organic rice hulls | [2] |
| Genuine Health Fermented Organic Vegan Proteins+ | Organic Reb A stevia leaf extract | Xanthan gum | Fermented protein blend | [3] |
| Ka'Chava | Organic coconut nectar, monk fruit; page states no stevia | Xanthan gum, guar gum | Acacia, chicory root, five-enzyme blend, two probiotic strains | [4] |
| Momentous 100% Plant Protein | Stevia, Reb M or monk fruit by flavor, plus organic cane sugar | None; brand states free from gums, fillers and stabilizers | None on the panel | [5] |
| NutriBiotic Rice Protein, Plain | None | None on the panel | None on the panel | [6] |
| Orgain Organic Protein & Superfoods | Reb A stevia extract | Guar gum, xanthan gum | Acacia, agave inulin, 8g fiber a serving, 50-item superfoods blend | [7] |
| Sunwarrior Organic Plant-Based Protein | Organic stevia leaf | Organic guar gum | Acacia, inside the MCT oil | [8] |
| Vega Protein & Supergreens | Stevia leaf extract | Guar gum, xanthan gum | Acacia, 4g fiber a serving | [9] |
Acacia is in the fiber column for every brand that carries it. It prints as "acacia gum" on most panels and "acacia fiber" on ours, and it is the same material: a soluble fiber from the acacia tree. Xanthan and guar have their own column because they go in purely to thicken. Five of these nine carry acacia, and none of the five belongs in the gum column for it.
"None on the panel" means the ingredient does not appear on the ingredient list we read. Momentous is the one row phrased differently, because that brand states the absence in its own marketing copy rather than leaving us to read it off the panel.
Sugar alcohols turn out to be a non-event across this set. Not one of the nine lists erythritol, maltitol, xylitol or sorbitol. Plenty of powders outside this list do, so it is still worth checking on a bag we have not read.
The rule this was built around was nine natural ingredients or less, and holding to it forced the interesting decision.
A plant protein has to be given body somehow. Xanthan and guar are the usual route, and five of the eight powders below take it. We went with prebiotic acacia fiber, which does two jobs at once on a label that has no room for a spare: it gives the shake its body, and it is a soluble fiber that ferments slowly rather than fast.[10] The slow part is what matters on this page, because the fibers most often reported alongside gas are the quickly fermented ones.[11]
Acacia is sometimes printed as acacia gum, and that one word is why people put the bag back down thinking they are holding a thickener like xanthan. It is a soluble fiber from the acacia tree, and a different ingredient from xanthan and guar.
The rest of it: a pea, rice and barley protein blend, allulose and monk fruit for sweetness, and 0g total sugar and 0g added sugar in both flavors, so no sugar alcohol is standing in either.[1] The barley protein means this is not a gluten-free product.
Three customers, verbatim, from our own review record.[12]
"This is the first plant protein powder I've tried that doesn't make me gassy or bloated. The chocolate tastes great and I drink it almost every day and still love it."
"I'm also pretty sensitive to bloat, especially with whey or anything with casein, and thankfully this didn't bother my stomach at all. It's satisfying but doesn't leave me overly full or sluggish, which is exactly what I want after a workout when I still need to get on with my day."
"It's tasty and doesn't make me bloat, so those are two winning qualities that I welcome."
One honest note alongside those. Any powder that adds fiber, ours included, can feel like more than usual for the first week if your diet was low on it, and that usually settles.
One ingredient: rice protein. That is the whole list.
Complement prints the percentage of each protein on the bag: pea, pumpkin seed, almond, sunflower seed and chia, five of them in one blend.
Pea and organic brown rice protein, sea salt. Momentous notes on its own product page that an earlier version of this formula carried gums, fillers and stabilizers and that the current one dropped them.[5] Bags of the old formula were presumably on shelves for a while after.
Fermentation is the digestion angle here, on a pea, brown rice, hemp and pumpkin seed blend.
NØRSE CØDE Plant Protein
20g protein per serving, dissolves in any liquid, no blender needed.
Shop NØRSE CØDEGoji berry sits on the panel alongside fermented pea and hemp protein. It is one of those ingredients that turns up on a lot of blends and rarely gets explained.
A greens blend of spinach, kale, alfalfa and broccoli goes in alongside the protein, which is what the Supergreens in the name refers to.
Digestion is the design brief here, and it is built in rather than implied: acacia, chicory root, a five-enzyme blend of amylase, protease, lactase, cellulase and lipase, and two named probiotic strains. The same scoop also carries the gum thickeners and a fast-fermenting fiber, two of the three lines at the top of this page, which is an unusual combination and worth knowing before you buy. It declares 7g total sugars including 4g added.[4]
The panel runs a protein blend, a 50-item superfoods blend, agave inulin carrying 8g of fiber a serving, acacia in the creamer base, thickeners for texture, and a stevia extract. In a controlled trial of chicory inulin, flatulence and bloating were the symptoms volunteers reported most often, and they rose with the dose.[11]
Xanthan gum and guar gum. They are there to thicken and nothing else. They are a trade, texture in exchange for an extra line on the panel, and plenty of people make that trade happily.
Erythritol, maltitol, xylitol, sorbitol. None of these nine uses one, though plenty of powders outside this list do.
Inulin and chicory root. Both are real prebiotic fibers with real evidence behind them. In the same controlled trial, flatulence and bloating were the most frequently reported symptoms, and both went up with the amount of inulin eaten.[11] Acacia ferments more slowly.[10] If inulin has caused you trouble before, that is the line to look for.
Complement, Momentous, NutriBiotic and NØRSE CØDE all come without xanthan or guar. Of those four, ours is the one that carries acacia, a slowly fermenting prebiotic fiber; the other three leave the fast-fermenting fibers out without adding a slow one.
If gums are the line that bothers you, that is where the nine narrow to four. If it is fast-fermenting fiber, inulin and chicory root are the words in question, and they appear on two of the nine.
